I feel oddly curious as to how the powers that be are going to address the topic and submission of AI generated artistic images on deviantART.
I would hope heated discussions are taking place. This digital medium is about to go big, I can feel it.
I don't care so much whether it should be considered "real art" (fucking lol) or not, but I wonder how it's going to be officially acknowledged and integrated as a digital art medium here.
There are AI imaging platforms that let a user generate images by way of feeding so called prompts to an AI, in a way describing in more or less detail what the AI should work with.
Other platforms can be fed base images that the AI may transform one way or another.
Is an AI generated image to be considered created by the person who gave an AI a job?
How should crediting and licensing and copyright work in this regard.
Already I've been seeing obviously generated submissions on dA, with no acknowledgement from the submitter that that's how the image came to be, fully or in part.
Does the prompter own the image they made the AI generate?
Can it be sold at all, in the same way other works can be sold here?
Of course, it needs to considered that generated images may be further manipulated with traditional image manipulation software, e.g. Photoshop.
When this technology and its use become mainstream, will manually created digital art get boosted to the prestige rank of traditional digital art? I smirk at the thought.
This reminds me of that tired old assumption by the unknowing and ignorant that digital art is created by clicking buttons. It's slightly funny that this concept becoming truer than ever now when using AI powered image generation.
I mean, fuck, I have seen many genuinely bloody awesome such images, mostly since I've become aware of Midjourney. I have a paid membership with it just retain access to its galleries. Many of the images are mind bending. But whether these images can be considered art and the users prompting them can be considered artists in this context, that should make for heated debates for quite a while.
But, yeah, I wonder how dA is going to officially handle it.
Great news, everybody!
Astronomers capture first image of a black hole
Isn't it pretty? It may not look as amazing as countless more or less science based artistic renditions of black holes, but this is the real deal. I'm confident we'll get to see even more detailed captures in the not so distant future.
